Education required for the computer hardware engineer:

You need at least a bachelors degree in engineering for this position. Computer hardware engineers do work which is similar to electrical engineers except computer hardware engineers work with computers. Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, test, and oversee the installation of computer hardware. Computer hardware includes computer chips, circuit boards, systems, modems, keyboards, and printers. You should be proficient in math, science, and engineering if you want to work as a computer hardware engineer. You need to have a curiosity of how computers work and even more importantly how they can work better.

Job outlook for computer hardware engineer:

Compared to other computer workers, there is fewer computer hardware engineers. As of 2006, there was about 79,000 computer hardware engineer jobs in the United States. As the computer technology sector continues to expand, the need for computers continues to grow. But many of these products will come from foreign countries. This reduces the need for the computer hardware engineer in the United States. The number of computer hardware engineers is expected to grow more slowly than average through 2016. With that said, computer hardware engineers will still have good job opportunities because the number of new entrants is expected to be in balance with the number of available jobs and therefore the job outlook is overall good.
